Seed Phrase

También conocido como: Recovery Phrase, Mnemonic Phrase, Secret Recovery Phrase, Backup Phrase

A sequence of 12-24 words that serves as the master backup for a cryptocurrency wallet, allowing recovery of all associated funds.

A seed phrase (also called recovery phrase or mnemonic) is a sequence of 12 to 24 words generated when you create a cryptocurrency wallet. This phrase is the master key to your wallet. Anyone with access to these words can control all associated funds.

How Seed Phrases Work:

  1. Wallet software generates random entropy
  2. Entropy converts to words using BIP-39 wordlist
  3. Words derive master private key
  4. Master key generates all wallet addresses
  5. Same phrase recreates identical wallet anywhere

BIP-39 Standard: - 2048 possible words in wordlist - 12 words = 128 bits of entropy - 24 words = 256 bits of entropy - Words are not random, they're from specific list - First 4 letters of each word are unique

Example (DO NOT USE): "abandon ability able about above absent absorb abstract absurd abuse access accident"

If Someone Gets Your Seed: - They can drain ALL wallets derived from it - No time limit on access - Cannot be revoked - Move funds immediately if compromised

Lost Seed Phrase: - If seed and wallet both lost, funds are gone - No recovery mechanism exists - Estimated 20% of Bitcoin lost to lost keys

Passphrase Option: Some wallets allow a 25th word (passphrase) for additional security. This creates a completely different wallet even with the same seed.
