Transparency: Openness & Accountability

Assessing how openly a project operates and communicates with its community

What is Transparency?

Transparency measures how openly a project shares information about its team, operations, development roadmap, and decision-making processes. It includes team identity disclosure, governance clarity, and regular communication with the community.

High transparency builds trust and enables informed decision-making by investors and users. Projects that operate in the shadows raise red flags, while those that embrace openness demonstrate confidence and accountability.

Key Evaluation Factors

Team Identity & Credentials

Knowing who is building a project is fundamental to establishing trust and accountability.

  • Publicly disclosed team members with verifiable identities
  • Relevant experience and track record in crypto or tech
  • Active social media presence and public engagement

Governance Structure

Clear governance processes ensure decisions are made transparently and with community input.

  • Documented governance framework and processes
  • Active community participation in governance votes
  • Track record of implementing passed proposals

Communication & Reporting

Regular updates keep the community informed and demonstrate ongoing progress.

  • Frequency and quality of development updates
  • Publicly accessible and regularly updated roadmap
  • Transparent communication during incidents or setbacks

Fair

Some team anonymity, limited governance, occasional updates, roadmap exists but not detailed

0-39: Poor Transparency
Poor

Anonymous team, no governance, rare updates, unclear roadmap, poor incident communication

Why Transparency Matters

Crypto has a history of rug pulls, exit scams, and projects that promise much but deliver little. Transparency is the antidote to this, allowing investors to verify claims and hold teams accountable.

Projects with high transparency attract better talent, form stronger partnerships, and build more loyal communities. When things go wrong, transparent teams can maintain trust and recover. Anonymous projects often cannot.
